After flying across the country, I found my way to my awesome dorm-style accommodation and immediately met women who wanted to show me around, told me which other ladies were in residence from Alaska, and whose offices were next to mine. I got a tour of the place, and while the first night somewhere new is strange, I think I'll like it here! I was immediately out of place, however; I knew this was a really nice place and has a dress code if you're outside of your room, but my fresh-off-the-plane self was not up to snuff with the ladies around me. I made sure to swap out of a few wardrobe pieces before being shown around the place. As interesting an initial feeling as it was, I'm glad for it. I've tried to operate under the "dress for the job you want, not the job you have" motto, and though I don't know what job I want, this is definitely the wardrobe atmosphere I've been shooting for!
The plastic bag isn't mine. The last occupant is still moving out. |
It was roughly 80˚ (about 27˚C) when I landed, which is crazy hot, especially when you follow the packing rule of wearing your heaviest items onto the plane. When I land somewhere that hot, I immediately set the thermostat in my lodging to AK temperatures. However, this room doesn't get that cold. It's better than outside, and with time I'll adjust, but it's still warm! So I've been inside since arriving, rocking a pretty good hair day no one but me is seeing. :( I'm watching the epicness that is the 1940s Pride & Prejudice while unpacking, writing all of this, and checking out my Google Map of places I need to go while I'm here. I've pretty well set up my to-do list for tomorrow, so I'll get to write another "Seeing the Sights" post! (it's been so long...)
